Venus Williams is back in the Wimbledon final after 8 years. She defeated today the home favourite, Johanna Konta, in straight sets, 6-4 6-2. Venus played unbelievable and had the match under control all the time. Konta was trying to get motivation and inspiration from the British spectators on the Centre Court as she did against Simona Halep. But this was a different kind of match. Venus is probably the most experienced active player on grass, having won 5 titles and played 7 finals in total.
Venus Williams is back in the Wimbledon final after 8 years. Last time she lost the 2009 final against her sister, Serena, in 2009. Now she is aged 37 years old, but she looks as if she is 17. She moved so easily on the court that you almost feel that she was flying. Despite her lack of form from last 4-5 years, this year was unbelievable as she reached the Australian Open final after a break of 14 years back in 2003.
As Venus Williams is back in the Wimbledon final after 8 years, if she wins the title she will become WTA World no. 4 in the rankings.
With today’s loss, the British fans will have to wait at least another year to see a British female player winning Wimbledon. Event though, Konta is the first British female player since 1978 to reach Wimbledon semifinals.
